Question
What the paper asks

An event study you can break
Toy model with made-up numbers. It illustrates a mechanism and is not a result from the paper. Simulated areas and invented effects. Turn on a pre-trend or anticipation and see how an event-study plot can look reassuring while the estimate is wrong.
